Physiotherapy Staff Training: BIODEX System 4 Isokinetic Machine

The world is experiencing unprecedented challenges in the form of pandemics and extreme weather patterns but the indomitable spirit of the human race shines through with new technological, scientific and medical breakthroughs. Introduction of new technologies are making older ones obsolete, and this warrants continuous education and training of for staying current in any field of expertise and the importance of this is succinctly expressed in the words of Peter Drucker “We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.”

At the Faculty of Health Sciences MAHSA University great emphasis is given for continuous education and training of staff to enhance knowledge and to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of physiotherapy, environmental health and medical imaging which is hoped to better clinical and academic teaching and ultimately ensure exceptional students learning outcomes. Through continuous education and training the essential skills and knowledge to take on their teaching role is imparted to staff. Continuous learning and training are dynamic processes that expand the horizons of learning and skill sets and it also reinforces what has been learnt previously.

The School of Physiotherapy at FOHS, MAHSA University under the dynamic leadership of our Dean, Prof. Veronica Chua, has embarked on a knowledge seeking journey which is firmly rooted on continuous learning and training for the staff to deliver the best possible evidence-based teaching and learning experience for our stake holders. 

We take pride that our School of Physiotherapy boasts the latest 3-D & 2-D gait analysis lab and a Biodex 4 System Isokinetic machine. The Biodex System 4 isokinetic machine, is a multi-faceted system that can be used for Neuro rehabilitation, sports training and rehabilitation, industrial medicine, Wellness/injury prevention, medical fitness and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and more. 

A training session by a product specialist from Singapore was conducted on 12th August 2022 for the physiotherapy staff regarding. It included a refresher on calibration and basic clinical application followed by more advanced session on advanced clinical applications and interpretation of testing results obtained. The training encompassed hands on training and Q&A session and all the staff attended the training session with great enthusiasm. We know that the learning cannot end and the quest for knowledge must be lifelong so that we are able to give a world class education to our students and to exemplify the motto “MAHSA Be More”

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist.
