  On 19th January 2025, MAHSA University's flagship campus in Bandar Saujana Putra had the distinct honour of hosting His Excellency Hassan Abdelsalam Omer, the Sudanese Ambassador to Malaysia. In a powerful stride towards public health awareness, MAHSA University recently hosted a transformative two-day HPV vaccination campaign that promises to be a game-changer in the fight against cancer. Aligning with the upcoming Malaysian Association for Cancer Research (MACR) conference, the event emerged as a beacon of hope and education.  The stark statistics are impossible to ignore. Human papillomavirus (HPV) stands as the most common sexually transmitted infection globally, with devastating potential. The National Cancer Society Malaysia reveals that cervical cancer remains the third most common cancer affecting women in the country. Worldwide, the World Health Organisation's 2019 data paints an urgent picture: 620,000 new cancer cases in women and 70,000 in men, directly linked to HPV.  Against this backdrop, MAHSA University transformed awareness into action. Throughout history people have used public speaking as a vital means of communication. Public speaking, as the name implies, is a way of making your ideas public- of sharing them with other people and of influencing other people. Surveys have shown that oral communication ranks among the topmost skills in career development. Nor has the growth of Internet and other new technologies reduced the need for public speaking. Apparently, there is no substitute for face-to-face communication. For students at the tertiary level to be successful, be it on a one-to-one basis, or before a group, be able to make a presentation that is convincing, believable and effective. On November 24th, 2023, the School of Education (SOE) from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing and Education (FOHSNE) hosted its inaugural " ENCHANTED ECHOES: CHORAL SPEAKING & THEATRE " event, featuring the talents of 50 Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (DTESL) students and 46 Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) students. This captivating showcase of choral speaking, theatre, and dance performances was meticulously crafted under the guidance of DTESL and DECE lecturers. The event served as a culmination of months of dedicated rehearsals, planning, and collaboration, fulfilling the assessments for ELE 4173 (Public Speaking) and ECEC4295 (Music, Movement and Drama in ECE) modules. FOHS & CEL Group Photo Hari Raya 2023 Honoring the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 as well as promoting togetherness among faculty members, Faculty of Health Sciences (FOHS) and Center of Education and Language (CEL) jointly held a Hari Raya Get Together event on 18th May 2023 (Thursday) with the theme; Traditional & Classic. The celebration which was initiated by our Dean, Assoc. Prof Dr. Veronica Chua was enthusiastically supported by all the staff who put their best effort in making the event successful and bringing everyone together within one faculty. Each department in FOHS prepared different kinds of food; Medical Imaging (MI) and Environmental Health (EH) preparde roti jala, dessert and cocktail, CEL preparing grilled chicken and black pepper gravy and while Physiotherapy in charge of the main dish; Byriani rice.   Transformational leadership is commonly known as leadership style associated with the management of an organization, whereby the leader inspires a positive change in the people he/she leads, to grow and improve an organization. However it is now also a concept which is being explored to add to the array of education approaches, especially in relation to teaching. Many studies have found that the characteristics and strengths of transformational leadership can be applied in the teaching and learning process with significant success. In my career as a teacher of English language and literature two questions have always piqued my conscience. They are as follows: 1. What is the aim of studying English at the tertiary level? and, 2. Why should we study this foreign language alone to the exclusion of the other languages? These are reasonable questions. Let me briefly answer both questions together beginning with the second. A new language is difficult to learn. In reality, studies have shown that it gets significantly harder to learn a new language after early childhood. However, kids are quite good at picking up new languages. They seem to naturally understand grammar and syntax and pick up language quickly. Yet how? Language acquisition theory was created by Noam Chomsky to explain this occurrence. Chomsky asserts that language acquisition is a natural talent. He names it a language acquisition device, and it is present in all newborns. Theoretically speaking, a language acquisition device is a tool.
