MAHSA's Representation in the Malaysian Dental Council

 

Newly elected members in the Malaysian Dental Council 2022 -2025


The 4th Malaysian Dental Council (MDC)  meeting was chaired by the Director General of Health of Malaysia  Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Haji Noor Hisham bin Abdullah. It was held on 2nd August 2022 with the Pre-Council Meeting being chaired by Dr. Noormi Binti Othman, the MDC Registrar on the 1st of August 2022. The Dental Act 2018 ( Act 804) which came into operation on 1st January 2022, replaced the Dental Act 1971. Members present were the newly appointed and elected members of the Malaysian Dental Council.

We are proud to announce that three of the council members are from MAHSA University. They are Pro-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Ishak bin Abdul Razak,  Dean of Dental Faculty Professor Dr. Rosnah Binti Mohd Zain, and Dental Therapist Ms. Jeevaretnam a/p K. Sockalingam.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Ishak bin Abdul Razak is the Chairman of the MDC Bulletin Editorial Board and Chairman of the Reviewers Committee of The Code of Professional Conduct. He is also a member of the Examination Committee and also in the working committee for Disciplinary Proceedings under the Dental Act 2018.

Professor Dr.Rosnah is a member of the Dental Qualifying Committee and a member of the Joint Technical Committee for Dental Evaluation of Dental Speciality Programmes. She is also a working committee member for “Panduan Pelaksanan Khidmat Wajib di Fasiliti Pergigian Swasta” which is a Guideline for the implementation of the compulsory service for the new dental officers in private dental facilities.

Ms. Jeevaretnam a/p K. Sockalingam has been appointed from the Malaysian Dental Therapist Board representing  Malaysian Dental Therapists in the Malaysian Dental Council.

Shattering Stereotypes: First Malaysian Indigenous Dentist

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist. JAKOA's message was shared on their TikTok page (@jakoamalaysia) based on a post made by the Malaysia Orang Asli Students' Association (PMOA) on their Facebook page.
