Researcher Spotlight: Prof. Dr. Srikumar Chakravarthi

 



A paper published in The New England Journal of Medicine, among the top Medical Journals in the world with an impact factor of a whopping 98.55!!!

A chapter published in Nature, Springer, among the top health care Journals in the world with an impact factor of 69.5!!!

And the list goes on. With almost 250 papers in indexed international peer reviewed journals, H-index of 33, i10 index of 98 and >5300 citations, Srikumar chases his burning desires and always aims for the moon. He believes in “Living life to the fullest” as a vehement follower of Jack Canfield, Abraham Hicks and Robin Sharma. He relies on the Secret and the Power of the Universe, that gives you whatever you aim for, if you work for it with passion and determination. He believes that once a researcher reaches a distinguished milestone, he must move backstage and prop his mentees, students and disciples to rise up and shine. This is the law of academia, to identify younger talent and nurture them as future geniuses.

Dr Srikumar is a Professor in Medicine, squeezed in the whirlpool of academic leadership and research administration for the past 26 years. He is the Director for Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, at MAHSA University, Malaysia. A former Dean of Medical Sciences at International Medical University, and former Dean of Graduate School of Medicine, Perdana University, he has served as educator and administrative leader, including business development, student recruitment, commercial income generation, educational spinoffs in various faculties in Malaysia, and internationally as well.

As an ardent researcher, he is involved in numerous research grants projects. His areas of research interest include cancer pathology, immunohistochemistry, post mortem studies and drug toxicity studies.

Dr Srikumar is the recipient of the Academic Brilliance Awards 2013 for Excellence in Research, the Venus International Medical Award 2018 for Excellence in Pathology, Brand Laureate Award for Brand Leadership 2018, The Outstanding Scientist Award 2019, Ron Harden Award for Innovation in Education 2009, and was recently conferred Malaysia’s Visionary Education Leader 2021 and Outstanding Leader in Healthcare Sector 2022.

A passionate lecturer with more than 20,000 teaching hours, he has won many awards in teaching and lecturing in his University teaching career, including the student choice Best Lecturer award for consecutive years, the teaching excellence award and many other awards, including the most inspiring lecturer, motivating lecturer and best PowerPoint presenter. He is popular among students for his innovative, technology-driven teaching methods, and also is an online educator to students in many countries, even since a decade before Covid induced online teaching. He has been part of the teams that have developed numerous android virtual reality apps for Medical Education, Clinical Simulation, Pathology, Virtual educational platforms, which have licensed users. His expertise includes building academic programmes, accreditation processes, assessments and curriculum structure planning, review and delivery.

His “Living life to the fullest” includes foraying as a drummer and guitarist, having played gigs with the IMU and Perdana University rock bands, marathon runner for a decade, and a trained kickboxer and powerlifter, recently winning the Mr MAHSA 2022 bodybuilding runner up.

Shattering Stereotypes: First Malaysian Indigenous Dentist

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist. Food Hygiene and Safety Study Tour to Yakult Factory in Seremban

On 28 July 2022, The Environment Health Department of   MAHSA University organised a study trip for the students of Faculty of Education and Health Sciences to   the Yakult Factory located at Oakland Industrial Park,   Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Three lecturers and fifteen students from Environmental Health Department and Centre of Education and Language went on this trip.
