Mat and Beyond: Express Your Light

 

In conjunction with International Yoga Day the Faculty of Dentistry conducted a basic Oral Health screening by the post graduates and Doctor of Dental Surgery Year 5 students under the supervision of the Dental Public Health lecturers at Dewan Serbaguna Laman Puteri 3, Puchong , Selangor . 

 

Oral health is equally important as overall health. The lack of access to oral healthcare due to cost, insurance coverage, and other social determinants of health in communities has spurred the creation of several innovative models to address this barrier. Oral healthcare integration into primary care and mobile oral healthcare delivery are two prominent models that have been deployed effectively in certain areas.  Returning the mouth to the body is by coordinating oral health and primary care services. It can address dental health disparities affecting vulnerable populations, including those in rural and underserved areas by the integration of oral health and primary care.  It has been identified as the number one goal in combating oral health disparities. Integration of services often includes co-location of services. This model allows for improved communication and coordination between dental and primary care providers. 


Philanthropy Work by Ms Shailaja Menon
Shailaja Menon is an Author, 500-hr Certified Manasa Yoga Teacher, Integral Yoga Teacher, TV Host and Speaker who grew up in Coimbatore, India but is now based in Malaysia. Shailaja has over twenty years of teaching experience in the field of yoga and is the Founder of “Mat & Beyond Yoga Studio” in Selangor, Malaysia. Shailaja is very keen to give back to the community.
  Along with her core team of students at Mat & Beyond Yoga Studio, they regularly raise funds through the sale of t-shirts and hold events to support underprivileged children in the local Tamil Schools in the Puchong area.

Shattering Stereotypes: First Malaysian Indigenous Dentist

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist. JAKOA's message was shared on their TikTok page (@jakoamalaysia) based on a post made by the Malaysia Orang Asli Students' Association (PMOA) on their Facebook page.
