Sustainable MAHSA: Go Green Pledge with FOBHAF

We took the pledge! Faculty of Business, Hospitality, Accounting and Finance (FOBHAF) organised a pledge ceremony in supporting MAHSA University project to eliminate single-use plastics.

The ceremony was held on June 7th, 2022 where students and staff gathered to express their concern on environmental challenges plaguing the world currently. The widespread usage of plastic bags by consumers to transport everyday things from stores, online food deliveries and other food vendors is a major source of pollution. To safeguard our world from this catastrophic threat and leave a green and pollution-free world for future generations, we must raise awareness among the entire community on this serious issue. FOBHAF invited Dr. Nagaraja Suryadevara, Project Leader of Green Warrior, MAHSA University to provide insights on how to become a sustainable, single-use plastic free campus. According to Dr. Nagaraja, plastics might take anywhere from 20 to 500 years to disintegrate depending on the composition and structure. Furthermore, as plastic degrades, it can leach toxins into the soil around it, causing a slew of new problems to our planet. That being the case, MAHSA University began enforcing a phased ban on single-use plastics on its campuses beginning in April 2022. Dr Nagaraja shared passionately that MAHSA aims to develop single-use plastic-free campuses, help students become responsible citizens who can manage and protect their own environment, improve campus practises to build a safe environment, raise student awareness about the dangers of plastic, and educate students about proper plastic disposal. This is to achieve a long-term vision for MAHSA University to become the first Plastic-Free campus in Malaysia.  The ceremony continued with 80 students and staff took a pledge to ban single-use plastic in their daily life. On behalf of Green Warrior, MAHSA University, Dr Nagaraja appreciates FOBHAF supports for organising the ceremony.
