Aied Mohammed is the Associate Professor in microbiology and Head of PIDC-MAHSA DDS Programme in the Faculty of dentistry, MAHSA University, Malaysia. Associate Professor Dr. Aied Mohammed did his undergraduate BSc degree in biomedical sciences at Sana’a University, Yemen. He pursued his PhD in genetic engineering and molecular biology at University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia and his research topic was “Effects of Newcastle Disease Virus Strains AF 2240 and V4-UPM on Cytolysis and Apoptosis of Leukaemia Cell Lines”. During his PhD thesis he induced Leukaemia in animal model and treated them with Newcastle Disease Virus Strains AF 2240 and V4-UPM. The results obtained showed that Newcastle Disease Virus Strains AF 2240 and V4-UPM have the potency to cure the leukaemia in mice. Later, he continued his Post-doctoral in molecular and cell biotechnology at University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia.
He has more than 20 years’ experience in medical laboratory technology and in teaching microbiology, molecular and cell biotechnology, oral biology, molecular biology and pharmaceutical biotechnology modules. He worked as tutor in Kuwait University hospital, Sana’a University, Yemen (1996-2002). Then, he joined University Pura Malaysia as postdoc fellowship (2008-2009). After his one year postdoc, he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer (2009-2012) at University Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia. Later, he joined department of oral biology and biomedical sciences at University of Malaya as senior lecturer and Associate Professor (2012-2017). Currently, He is Associate Professor at Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University. He is also serving as an internal and external examiner for undergraduate and post-graduate programmers for several colleges and universities in Malaysia and external assessor for associate professor promotion for several universities in Yemen.
Associate Professor Dr. Aied Mohammed is a microbiologist and biotechnologist and he has over seventy five (75) research publications and an H-index of 18. His main research interests are cancer research, drug discovery, and molecular microbiology. Much of his work has been on the Newcastle Disease Virus as oncolytic agent and developing of new anticancer drug from natural products and their preliminary screening in both in-vivo and in-vitro models. Currently, he has research on natural products and oral cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, he has a special interest in pre-clinical assessment of mesenchymal stem cells from various sources and in all aspects of regenerative dentistry research. His future research works is based on developing alternative drugs for cancer using natural products.
To date, he has successfully supervised and completed 6 doctoral projects, 6 master and more than 35 undergraduate research projects and he is currently supervising five PhD scholars. He has more than 21 national research projects funded by ministry of higher education, University Malaya, University Sultan Zainal Abidin and MAHSA University and one international grant funded by SUNSTAR Japan. He has done postgraduate and undergraduate research projects in collaboration with public universities.
He has been an invited speaker at international scientific meetings and conferences and
serves as a reviewer for several scientific international journals and research
grants. He served on the editorial boards of various journals. He
has also been a member of organizing committees for different
international conferences. He is also a member of a number of national and
international associations.
