Network and Orientation Week – Business and Engineering Programme May 2023 Intake

On 16 May 2023 until 19 May 2023, Student Central organized a Network and Orientation Week for the Business and Engineering new intake students. A total number of 19 students joined this programme. This Network and Orientation Week was aimed to familiarize the new students with the university campus, academic resources, support services, and promote a sense of belonging within the university community.


Various venues within the university premises were designated for different activities, including classrooms, the auditorium, the library, and outdoor spaces. The FAST, Student Central and logistics team ensured that necessary arrangements, such as seating, audio-visual equipment, and refreshments, were in place. The orientation began with a warm welcome address by the Head of Student Central, followed by introductions from the Elite Team, student representatives, and key administrative staff. The aim was to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere for the new students.


On the first day of orientation, students were directed to the MAHSA Clinic to undergo their medical checkup and they need to attend the welcome speech and opening ceremony of the orientation. Several information sessions were conducted to provide important details on various topics, such as university policies, campus safety, student organizations, financial aid, accommodations, and student support service. These sessions aimed to equip students with essential information to navigate their university journey successfully.


To foster social connections among new students, a range of sports and group activities were organized, including icebreaker games, team-building exercises, sports activities, cultural events and campus tours. These activities provided opportunities for students to interact with their peers and build a sense of camaraderie. Guided tours were organized to familiarize students with the university campus, including academic buildings, libraries, laboratories, recreational facilities, and student accommodations. These tours helped new students understand the layout of the university and locate essential services.


Academic advisors and lecturers from faculties were available to students in selecting subjects, understanding program requirements, and their timetable under the Faculty Meet and Greet slot. They provided guidance regarding academic planning, study strategies, and resources available for academic support. Additional workshops and seminars were conducted to enhance students’ academic and personal skills, for example, Are You Ready for The Green Warrior Challenge, 3D Printing Workshop and Pride Workshop. They aimed to equip students with essential skills to excel academically and thrive personally.


The orientation activities received positive feedback from students. The new intake expressed appreciation for the informative sessions, campus tours, and opportunities to interact with faculty and current students. The orientation programme helped students feel more confident and prepared for their college journey. Feedback surveys were administered to assess the effectiveness of the orientation activities and gather suggestions for improvement in future orientations.


The new intake orientation programme at MAHSA University organized by Student Central successfully provided students with a comprehensive introduction to the university campus, academic resources, and support services. Through a well-planned schedule of activities, the programme fostered a sense of belonging and preparedness among the students. Student Central will utilize the feedback received to further enhance future orientation programmes and ensure the smooth transition of new students into the university community.
