Exploring Architectural Excellence at Anjung Kelana Residence


On the 5th of May 2023, students from MAHSA's Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and IT embarked on an enlightening journey to "Anjung Kelana Residence" located in Sri Rusa, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. This visit provided a unique opportunity for six students and four lecturers to delve into the intricacies of architectural design and construction. Led by the renowned architect Ar. Azman Zainal MD Nor, this educational excursion left a lasting impression on the participants, enriching their understanding of timber construction, passive design solutions, and the importance of sustainable building practices.

Exploring "Anjung Kelana Residence":
Designed and constructed by Architect Ar. Azman Zainal MD Nor, "Anjung Kelana Residence" stands as a testament to his expertise in architectural excellence. With almost 30 years of experience in various projects, including historic building rehabilitation, office complexes, commercial spaces, and residential structures, Ar. Azman's portfolio is truly remarkable. The residence itself is a three-story bungalow crafted predominantly from recycled Cenggal and Merbau wood, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly architectural solution. Situated overlooking the picturesque 4th mile beach, the lower ground of the residence provides an open living space, while the upper floors house family areas and rooms.

A Privileged Learning Experience:
The visit to "Anjung Kelana Residence" was a privilege for the students pursuing degrees and diplomas in Architectural Technology and Quantity Surveying at MAHSA University's Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and IT. They had the distinct honor of personally meeting and learning from Architect Ar. Azman within the very premises of his masterful creation. During their visit, the students gained valuable insights into the nature and types of timber, timber construction technology, and passive design solutions. Exploring the residence, touring the timber workshop, and attending a brief lecture session at Ar. Azman's residence provided an immersive and holistic learning experience.
