Fitness-Screening Booth 2022

In conjunction with the thematic month of February 2022, the Faculty of Health Sciences set up a fitness-screening booth on Thursday 17th February 2022 from 10 am to 4.10 pm at SPINE in the Humanity Building. The activity was aligned with the theme “Unite, Stay Fit and Be Happy”.

There was a wide range of interesting activities conducted at the fitness screening booth, including the flexibility test, the cardiovascular-endurance test, the muscle-strength test, the balance test and BMI calculation.  The participants for these activities included students and staff of MAHSA University. They eagerly participated in the activities and at the end obtained an eye-opening summary of their physical fitness level after performing all the tests.

These activities were conducted by our very own team from the School of Physiotherapy, including clinical instructors and lecturers who are specialised in sports therapy, physical fitness & wellness, cardiovascular health and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

The purpose of this fitness screening was to help students and staff gain better appreciation of their physical fitness level and health, and identify areas that they need to pay more attention to. Many people mistakenly think that physical fitness is only cardiovascular endurance, and therefore only engage in activities such as jogging. People often neglect the other important aspects of physical fitness, such as muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body weight and composition.

Physical fitness is important for a healthy, balanced and productive  day-to-day life and it is therefore important to take purposeful steps to improve our physical fitness. A better overall physical fitness also drastically reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases such as Type-2 diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

The event turned out to be hugely popular and it managed to achieve its main goal of creating a better awareness of physical fitness among the participants based on the interpretation of their test results and thereby set them on the road to better physical fitness levels in the near future.
