MAHSA Appoints Eminent Hospitality Consultant & Award Winning Author, Mr Hanley Chew as Industry Advisor to School of Hospitality Management



The School of Hospitality Management has appointed Mr. Hanley Chew as the Industry Advisor to the Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Hons) programme. He brings with him a wealth of hospitality industry experience with is previous works at the Sunway Group under its hospitality arm, overseeing the management and expansion of the Sunway, Allson and The Banjaran brands in Southeast Asia, China, India and the Middle East. He was the CEO for Sunway International Hotels & Resorts, Sunway International Vacation Club, Sunway Healthy Lifestyle and Sunway Travel.
He was also the CEO of Destination Resorts and Hotels Sdn Bhd, the leisure and travel arm of Khazanah Nasional Bhd. He then founded Hotel Integrations Sdn Bhd, a hotel consultancy company. He later joined Berjaya Hotels and Resorts, a Malaysian based hotel group with a portfolio of 20 hotels operating in 7 countries as CEO. Hanley was also at the hospitality arm of Vietnam’s largest conglomerate, Vingroup, operating 47 Vinpearl Hotels all across Vietnam. He founded JustTonite in 2020, in the height of Covid-19 pandemic to assist the hotel industry manage its daily excess room inventories.
Hanley is also an author of award-winning books. His first book, HOTEL TALES was a huge success. The book won first prize in the 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. Winning the award motivated him to publish his second edition, MORE HOTEL TALES that won him 2nd placing in the 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards. He has just recently launched his third book, EVEN MORE HOTEL TALES and he hopes for more books to come.
With his vast experience in the hospitality industry, Hanley will be able to contribute vastly in the development and relevancy of the hospitality programme at the university. The Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Hons) programme is a 3 year full-time programme with 3 specialisations; Tourism Management, Events Management and Integrated Resort Management.
