Stay Fit Explorace

By: Malavika Kaden

MAHSA University’s Centre of Pre-University Studies organised a physical fitness exploration race on 19th March that was open to all MAHSA students. The goal of this exploration was to inspire students to be physically active, to embrace healthy competition among competing teams and to foster unity and teamwork among participants. It was planned and executed by the pre-university department lecturers Dr Naimah Haron, Dr Chew Weiyun, and Madam Siti Salmiah, and the participants were students from various faculties participating.

Six stations were set up across the university campus, each staffed by student volunteers. Participants were given clues that would guide them to their assigned stations, where they would complete some fun yet physically challenging exercises. Such tasks included burpees, squats, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks and sprint running. At each station, participants were also required to find ribbons hidden by the student volunteers to acquire the next clue. The team that visited all the stations and managed to complete all the physical tasks within the shortest timeframe would win the explorace.

All the participants gathered at the Unity building at 10am for a short briefing by the organisers. They were told about the flow of activities and the safety measures to be taken throughout the event. It started off with a warm-up session led by one of our very own participants. After the warm-up session, the participants were handed the clues to the respective stations. Everyone brainstormed to crack each clue and raced to their stations as fast as they could. As a fellow participant, I felt that this expedition tested not only our physical strengths, but also our mental abilities which required us to work under pressure. Even though we were burnt out from the intense exercises given in every station, every team worked together tirelessly to find the hidden ribbons and 01131508968 the next puzzle. Despite our exhaustion, we continued running from station to station in the hopes of finishing first.

Taking part in this explorace was a fruitful experience. We might have pulled a muscle or two, but the enjoyment and the new friends we made compensated that.
