RESEARCHER SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Sulagna Dutta

 


In this round of our Researcher Spotlight for November 2021, the Research, Innovation and Enterprise team is honoured to introduce to you Dr. Sulagna Dutta BSc (Hons, Physiology), MSc (Physiology), PhD (Immunology), Research Internship (Andrology) (Cleveland Clinic, USA), 

  Dr. Dutta is the Head of Services (Research) and Senior Lecturer in Physiology in the Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University, Malaysia. She is an accomplished Researcher and Academician with more than 12 years of experience in teaching and research. Her research interests include Immunology, Reproductive Physiology and Infertility. Dr. Dutta has published over EIGHTY-FIVE (85) research articles and book chapters. Her current Scopus h-index is 16 and Google Scholar h-index is 25

Above all, MAHSA University is proud of Dr. Dutta being ranked among the Top 2% Scientists in the world by Stanford University in 2020 and she conquered it yet again for 2021. She is also ranked 3rd in Malaysia as a Infertility Research Specialists (including sub-specialty of Male Infertility) by the Expertscape in 2020 and 2021

Dr. Dutta is consistent and dedicated in her work which bore her excellent reputation in MAHSA University. Her outstanding contribution in research at the University has had her procure recognition and research awards in the categories of ‘Highest Research Publications’ in 2019 and ‘Best Researchers’ in 2021.

Dr. Sulagna Dutta holds a strong educational background in Physiology having pursued B.Sc. with Physiology Honors, M.Sc. in Physiology with specialization in Immunology and Microbiology holding 3rd Rank in the University of Calcutta, India, and earned a PhD in Physiology, with specialization in Immunology with University Research Fellowship (URF) from the University of Calcutta, after qualifying the National Eligibility Test (NET) by UGC-CSIR, India in June 2011. During her Masters and Ph.D. Dissertations, Dr. Dutta worked on immunomodulation of infectious diseases. She has investigated the impact of combinations of various immunomodulators, antibiotics and antioxidants on bacterial arthritis. 

She later broadened her research arena to Reproductive Immunology, Reproductive Physiology and Infertility, for which she has also pursued Research Internship in Reproductive Medicine from the American Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM), Cleveland Clinic, USA. Dr. Dutta has procured several Research Grants, and currently working with the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) of Malaysia, which encompasses immunomodulatory mechanisms in bacterial periodontitis, and MAHSA University Research Grants which include modulation of various innate immune receptors of male reproductive tract.

MAHSA University values her research collaborations with various National and International Institutes. She is an International Collaborator and Research Mentor in the American Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM), Cleveland Clinic, USA and has research collaborations with the Yeni Yüzyil Universitesi, Turkey and the University of Nigeria, apart from some eminent Universities in India and Malaysia.

MAHSA University highly appreciates the research contributions of Dr. Sulagna Dutta and also recognizes her soft skills and respectful attitude towards her colleagues and peers that lead to healthy work environment and higher productivity.

 MAHSA University's MSc and PhD by Research programme enables students to embark on research topics such as Biological Science, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Biomaterial Science, Tissue Engineering, Clinical, Dentistry, Drug Discovery, and Social Medicine, among others that relate to Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, and Health Science.

Shattering Stereotypes: First Malaysian Indigenous Dentist

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist.
