3D Printing Hands-On Workshop

As the world moves forward to IR4.0, additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, plays a very important role because this technology makes prototyping possible with less effort compared to traditional methods. For those new to the technology, 3D printing can be a tool to turn their creativity into reality.

On 26 April 2021, a short programme called 3D Printing Hands-On Workshop was conducted with the Year 8 and Year 7 students from MAHSA International School (MISKL). The programme was led by Mr Sheih Muhammad Buhari and Mr Mukram Idris from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment of MAHSA University. The objective of the event was to expose the latest technology to the students and allow them to explore designs in 3D printing.

The 3D model can be downloaded from the Internet for free. The students were taught to design a 3D object using Sketch-Up before the 3D printing demonstration. First, the students were shown how to design a simple key and then to modify it into their own custom designs, which they did, and some even added their own names. After designing, the models were prepared to be 3D-printed. A demonstration was done on how to setup a 3D printer.

Throughout the workshop, the students showed active participation and positive engagement. They also showed interest especially during the demonstration of 3D printing. At the end of the day, all the students received keychains from the faculty.
