The best part about being a Malaysian, is the opportunities we have through our cultural differences to always have something to celebrate. On the 18th of January, a special Mandarin Orange distribution was made between mentors and mentees which allowed the Faculty of Business, Hospitality, Accounting and Finance to engage with an out-of-the-classroom activity between students and lecturers of the faculty.
But it was not just the act of giving, the add up the fun, students had to receive the oranges with creative slogans and amazingly enough, they were very supportive and creative with their ideas and while doing so, the old and the new students had a chance to get to know one another while sharing the Yang we could all do with in life.

The Mandarin orange is an important symbol of the Chinese New Year.
The small citrus looks like the sun, and because the sun is aligned with the yang (positive) principle, it is a symbol of abundance and happiness. Originating from Southern China, the tradition of giving mandarin oranges is known as “song gam” in Cantonese. Coincidentally, it also means “giving gold”, which has been used as a symbol of conferring prosperity and well wishes to the recipient.
A total of 170 students and 23 lecturers got together and celebrated the giving of prosperity.
