Virtual Lab Demonstration

Words by: Norlaila Najwa binti Rahman

Many students have difficulty deciding the study route they want to take. Though engineering isn't everyone's first choice, the increasing number of students that enter the field is astounding. To help students with their choices, the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FEBE) organized a virtual lab demonstration with Foundation in Science students on 30th September 2021 as it may be useful if the students are interested in engineering but aren't sure why they should pursue it for their undergraduate program.

Engineering can lead to many different pathways. Engineers can solve issues, come up with many solutions, and critically evaluate those solutions to ensure that they will be effective. During the sessions, lecturers from FEBE introduced a variety of machines that they acquired such as 3D printers, Lathe machines, Green Concrete Tube Testing, Impact Jet, MAHSA Mini Solar power plant, and many more.

Students were taught how to use and handle the machine in a practical laboratory. It is interesting to note that this field teaches you much more than textbooks and syllabuses, which not only improves your skills but also expands your problem-solving capabilities.

Overall, it was a great session for the students to have an insight into the engineering course
