MAHSA International Conference on Health Science and Technology 2021 (Mi-CHEST 2021)

    The Faculty of Health Sciences successfully completed the MAHSA International Conference on Health Science and Technology 2021 (Mi-CHEST 2021) organised in collaboration with MAHSA Academics Solutions (MACS) and held on the 17th September 2021. The theme of this conference is “Moving Health Sciences Forward During IR4.0”. The opening ceremony of the conference was addressed among others by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ikram Shah Bin Ismail (Vice-Chancellor, MAHSA University), Prof. Dr. Srikumar Chakravarthi, (Director of Research, Innovation & Enterprise, MAHSA University), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veronica Chua (Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences, MAHSA University). 


This conference welcomes three eminent keynote speakers to continue the session by delivering their prestigious presentations. The first keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Jamal Hisham Hashim (Director of Provenue Corporation Sdn. Bhd. and visiting professor of Universiti Selangor, Malaysia and Universitas Diponegoro, Indonesia) presented on the topic “Health Implications of Climate Change on Malaysia and IoT Solutions”. It was then followed by the presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Haidzir Abd. Manaf, the second keynote speaker of the conference. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Haidzir, who is the Head of Centre of Physiotherapy Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA as well as the President of Malaysian Physiotherapy Association, delivered his presentation entitled “Technology-driven Approaches in Gait Analysis for Post-Stroke Rehabilitation”. Next, the session was taken over by Dr. Noorazrul Azmie bin Yahya, the third keynote speaker of Mi-CHEST 2021. Dr. Noorazrul is a lecturer from the School of Diagnostic and Applied Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He presented on the topic “Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer Patients”.

With more than 200 participants, the conference followed through three parallel sessions, with each focusing on the field of 1) Environmental Health & Safety, 2) Physiotherapy, and 3) Medical Imaging.  The plenary sessions of the three parallel sessions were addressed by the experts in the respective fields, including Prof. Dr. Zailina Hashim from Provenue Corporation Sdn. Bhd. and Universiti Putra Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Juliana Jalaludin from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Dr. Kamarul Amin Abdullah @ Abu Bakar from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia, Dr. Muhammad Khalis bin Abdul Karim from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Mr. Mohamed Kassim from TRAPHY Physiotherapy & Sports Science Centre (Synapse Health Pvt. Ltd.), Brunei Darussalam, and Mr. Narendra Babu Alagiriswamy from the United States.

 

The sessions were further followed by research presentations, wherein researchers, academicians, and students from various fields of health sciences came together and disseminated their research findings. A big congratulation goes out to all the best presenters!

Having met its objective of bringing academics, researchers, educationists, and practitioners in Physiotherapy, Environmental Health & Safety, Medical Imaging, and other related disciplines to share their latest research on the advancements and developments in the relevant fields towards the fourth industrial revolution, Mi-CHEST 2021 was indeed a success. The Faculty of Health Sciences wishes to thank all the participants for making this conference a memorable one.

Shattering Stereotypes: First Malaysian Indigenous Dentist

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist.
