 Words by: Dr Nurkhalida Makmor

The economic turbulence due to the pandemic (COVID19) has caught the global business firms unaware. This has forced businesses to think out of the box and create sustainable business models to sustain themselves in the marketplace. In fact, Business sustainability is vital for any investment at any company in this modern era of information technology. Specifically, adopting advanced systems and technologies is a matter of a business continuity, in this new world order of today. Evolving according to the current business environment, has become a strategic concern driven by competitive forces leading to sustainable advantage in the marketplaces. Today, more than 80 percent of companies agree that sustainability is crucial to the organization’s success. Most of the companies are eager to integrate the sustainable business model into business management, which they believe would lead to an enhanced business performance and help them to secure and attain a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace. Therefore, developing sustainable products and services will change the scale and scope of the business idea models.

The Faculty of Business, Finance, and Information Technology and Hospitality (FOBFITH) has been successful in integrating the concept of sustainable business models in the classroom delivery and assignments enabling students to learn about social and environmental issues and preparing them for their future jobs. To meet these goals, the business school has evolved programmes and activities that will introduce these concepts to the students enabling them to be industry ready graduands.

In addition to this, FOBFITH believes that students should be able to transform the ideas and knowledge into actionable processes that help their organisation and society. This will enable them to be more sustainable in the new world of business practices. Thus, moving to a business-related programme will be a best bet as there are plenty of career opportunities waiting for them. Programme delivery is designed to transform the students to take part in managerial knowledge attainment, including professional skills which are valuable in the workplace. We train our students to make projects commercially profitable, projects that can succeed in the future, manage resources that can be reused and renewed, and give back to society.
