MAHSA's Young Dental Researchers Win 1st Prize and Best Overall Research for Undergraduate Category at the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting IADR-MALSEC


18th September 2021 - Congratulations to Ms Jacqueline Chung and Ms Ng Yue Myng from the Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University, for winning 1st place for the Undergraduate Category, and Overall Undergraduate Research Project respectively at the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Malaysian Section, held online, today. Ms Chung’s winning paper presentation was titled ‘Comparison of Cleaning Efficacy of Two Different Disinfectant Solutions on Used Dental Burs’, an undergraduate research conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Professor Dr. Kranthi. Ms Ng’s project paper which won the best overall project was titled ‘Comparative Evaluation of the Microhardness of a Novel Zirconia Reinforced Rice Husk Nanohybrid Composite and Nanofilled Composite when Using Three Different Curing Modes’, supervised by Professor Dr. Kiran Singhbal.

The theme for this year’s 20th Annual Scientific Meeting IADR Malaysian Section was ‘The Resilient Researcher: Innovating Research in the New Normal’. The event had its plenary speakers discuss on the challenges faced in conducting research and how to work around it. The scientific competition had a total of 95 participants competing in three major categories - undergraduate, post-graduate, and research. Present as a panelist in today's Simposium was also Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kranthi.

The International Association for Dental Research-Malaysian Section (IADR-MALSEC) is an organisation formed in Malaysia that promotes research in all aspects of oral and the related sciences. Its members consist of dental health professionals in Malaysia working in various academic institutions, as well as from other organisations. The formation of Malaysian Section is approved by the Southeast Asian Division of International Association of Dental Research. And the formation of the Division itself is under the approval of the main organisation which is the International Association for Dental Research. The International Association for Dental Research is a non-profit corporation organised under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States of America. The objectives of IADR-MALSEC is to promote broadly the advancement of research in all branches of dental science, and in those phases of the related sciences which contribute directly to the development of oral health, as well as to encourage and facilitate co-operative effort and achievement by, and mutual helpfulness among, investigators in all nations in every division of stomatology to the end that dentistry may render cumulatively a more perfect service to humanity.

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist.
