MAHSA University Pioneers Malaysia’s First Private Quality Verification Centre (QVC) for Microcredentials
Bandar Saujana Putra, 08/08/2025 — In a defining moment for Malaysian higher education, MAHSA University proudly launched its Quality Verification Centre (QVC) for stand-alone microcredential programmes — officially recognized as the first private university in the country appointed to this role by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
The launch ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, who praised MAHSA’s forward-thinking leadership in championing flexible, skills-based learning models that are aligned with national workforce aspirations.
“Microcredentials are not just certificates. They represent real, tangible progress in personal and professional development. They empower the Malaysian workforce, promote talent mobility, and support our national aspiration to become a high-income, knowledge-based economy,” said the Deputy Minister in his address.
He emphasized the significance of Microcredentials in empowering the Malaysian workforce, by providing targeted, industry-relevant learning opportunities for individuals across all stages of life and work, which aligns with Malaysia’s national priorities for talent development under the 13th Malaysia Plan and Ekonomi MADANI vision.
The Deputy Minister expressed confidence that MAHSA University’s QVC, as a national benchmarking centre, will help assure the quality and credibility of microcredential offerings by education providers across the country — enabling recognition by both local and international stakeholders.
In his keynote address the CEO of MQA Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Shatar bin Sabran described microcredentials as “the new pathway in higher education,”
“With the establishment of QVCs like this one in MAHSA University, MQA ensures that every microcredential verified carries the assurance of quality, credibility, and value,” he said. “This is essential in building trust with learners and employers and in strengthening Malaysia’s position as a leader in alternative credentialing.”
In conjunction with the launch, Letters of Intent (LOIs) were signed between MAHSA University and four distinct strategic partners to support the development and implementation of microcredential programmes through the new QVC. These four strategic partners include Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), University of Portsmouth (UoP), National Association of Private Educational Institutions (NAPEI) and Pharmaniaga Berhad, Malaysia’s leading pharmaceutical company.
These partnerships will catalyse the development of microcredential offerings across healthcare, defence, leadership, and pharmaceutical sciences — enhancing cross-sector collaboration and delivering targeted upskilling opportunities.
Following the event, YB Senator Prof. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Hj. Mohamed Haniffa bin Hj. Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor and Executive Chairman of MAHSA University, highlighted the broader vision behind the QVC:
“The launch of our Quality Verification Centre represents a strategic vision realized — to position MAHSA as a leader in providing flexible and accessible education of global academic standards for all, which enables lifelong learning, upskilling and reskilling. We are committed to working closely with our esteemed partners to support Malaysia’s human capital development and to contribute to the country’s goal of becoming a regional hub for quality education.”
Also present was Dato’ Dr. Shahril Haniffa bin Tan Sri Haniffa, Group Managing Director of MAHSA, who underscored the national imperative to modernize education pathways:
“The future of education lies in personalization, flexibility, and lifelong learning. Microcredentials are not a luxury — they are a necessity for nurturing a workforce that is adaptable, future-ready, and resilient. At MAHSA, we are proud to champion this transformation and invite all higher education institutions to join us in reshaping Malaysia’s talent landscape for Industry 5.0 and beyond.”
