Behind the Scenes: FOEBEIT Students Explore RTM's Broadcasting Magic

On November 7, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and IT organised an engaging visit to Radio Television Malaysia (RTM). Eight lecturers and fourteen students from the Electrical Engineering program took part, warmly welcomed by Mr. Afif, Ms. Anne, and Ms. Ain of RTM, who made our experience truly memorable.

Our tour began with a visit to the control rooms of Nasional FM and Traxx FM, where we learnt the ins and outs of broadcasting. Our students even got hands-on experience conducting live on-air sessions, a unique opportunity to see how electrical engineering principles are applied in real-time radio transmission.

Next, we visited Studio M1, the largest at RTM, used for live recordings and entertainment broadcasts. Exploring the technical setups in the Audio Control Room and Gallery Studio deepened our understanding of sound engineering. We also toured Studio M3, dedicated to sports broadcasting, seeing firsthand the critical role that electronics play in delivering clear, high-quality broadcasts.

Before concluding, we toured the Sri Angkasa Auditorium, an impressive hall seating up to 1,000 people, and observed its sound systems and lighting—important applications of electrical and electronics concepts. This visit offered our students an enjoyable and hands-on look into broadcasting technology, linking classroom learning to the real world of media.

This visit was an invaluable experience for our students, providing them with practical insights and a deeper appreciation of the broadcasting industry. We extend our heartfelt thanks to RTM and our gracious hosts for making this visit a memorable and educational experience.
