Bollywood Zumba @ MAHSA’s IWD 2023

Honoring the essence and influence of women in society, MAHSA University conducted several meaningful events to celebrate the International Women’s Day 2023 on 9th March (Thursday) recently. 2023’s theme for International Women’s Day is #Embracing Equity, allowing women to have freedom in being successful in all aspects of their life, including social, economic, cultural and political realms. One of the events is Bollywood Zumba which started earlier the day. Initiating the day with active physical activity; Zumba would help the staff and participants to increase their physical and mental stamina as well as boosting their motivation and productivity not only in the working environment but also throughout their day. This is inclined with the 2023’s theme of IWD, acknowledging all aspects of women’s success without having women to choose only certain aspects to excel due to the society’s restriction and stigma.

The Bollywood Zumba session which was instructed by Zin Shalini, an instructor from Body Curve Fitness and Yoga Studio. The Zumba session was exclusively for MAHSA’s female staff and participants. The session started with a slower warm-up song, then followed by higher beat song to build intensity of participants throughout the workout, and ending with a cool-down song. The participants were guided very well throughout the 45 mins Zumba session.

The representatives from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FOHS); Miss Ainul, Madam Hanis and Miss Munirah participated in the Bollywood Zumba to show their support for the IWD’s event. As staff are fully occupied with teaching and other responsibilities at the workplace, having a Zumba session is one of the ways to reduce the stress and unwind.

Zumba is an exercise which is very effective at reducing fatigue, improving alertness and concentration, and enhancing overall cognitive function. Well done MAHSA University in recognizing and celebrating Women on this International Women’s Day, and for organizing fun activities that help staff de-stress and refresh both body and mind.
