EXTRINSIC REWARDS = / ≠ EMPLOYEES COMMITMENT IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY?

Words by:   Nik Izzul Islam Bin Azhan Fadzil The Malaysian government has implemented numerous promotion plans to help the tourism industry to enhance its contribution to the country's economic development. It has implemented a few campaigns, such as, “Cuti-Cuti Malaysia” (Vacation in Malaysia) and “Visit Malaysia Year 2007” to fully realise the potential of the tourism industry. These strategies are implemented as the government understands that the tourism industry has an extraordinary potential of positively impacting the nation’s economy since Malaysia is gifted by an abundance of marvellous natural sights.  In order to achieve excellence in the tourism industry, one of the biggest components, which is the hotel industry, should be accorded due consideration. The hotel industry plays a very important role. Looking at the growth and development of the hotel industry in Malaysia, and in order to maintain the consistency of its growth, the availability of appropriate ...

Integrating UNSDG in Higher Education

Words by: Zuria Suzieana Zolkepli Globally adopted in 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development outlines a shared vision for peace and prosperity for the   people and the planet. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are at the centre of this global cooperation where it aims to address poverty and other deprivations in line with   addressing health, education, inequality, and economic growth, not to forget protecting the environment issue. Universities are expected to make the difference by being committed to implementing these goals and contribute to the enhancement of the body of knowledge encompassing them. One of the easiest way for a university to contribute is through research. A university will learn more about its current contributions to the body of knowledge surrounding the SDGs, as well as possible areas of expansion, by identifying research that meets the SDG topics. MAHSA University has organised a conference that focused on sustainable enviro...

Virtual Lab Demonstration

Words by:  Norlaila Najwa binti Rahman      Many students have difficulty deciding the study route they want to take. Though engineering isn't everyone's first choice, the increasing number of students that enter the field is astounding. To help students with their choices, the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FEBE) organized a virtual lab demonstration with Foundation in Science students on 30th September 2021 as it may be useful if the students are interested in engineering but aren't sure why they should pursue it for their undergraduate program.    Engineering can lead to many different pathways. Engineers can solve issues, come up with many solutions, and critically evaluate those solutions to ensure that they will be effective. During the sessions, lecturers from FEBE introduced a variety of machines that they acquired such as 3D printers, Lathe machines, Green Concrete Tube Testing, Impact Jet, MAHSA Mini Solar power plant, and many ...

How to Stay Industry-Relevant in the Next Decade and Beyond

Long gone are the days of simplicity.   Simple complacent minds and simple analog machines simply cannot compete in today’s extraordinarily challenging circumstances and unavoidably digital mode.   The global pandemic has made this very obvious, although even without it, we would still have had to contend with the necessity of constantly educating and upgrading ourselves nonetheless. As these past two especially difficult years have taught us, nobody should ever take their jobs for granted.   In order to stay industry-relevant and thus be potential assets desired by either employers or clients, employees and business owners everywhere have to take a long, hard look at their skill sets.   The catch-phrases are ‘constant change’ and ‘continuous competition’, and in this context, constant change means constantly new technologies and constant...
