Our Faculty of Health Science, Nursing & Education student Shema Gloire Ange recently won a silver medal in the 105kg cateogry at the Sarawak Powerlifting Open, held by the Sarawak Powerlifting Association - SPA, in the prestigious Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), under the Men’s Open Raw category.
Hot off the heels with his previous achievement this year with a national bench press record under the Malaysian Association for Powerlifting Bench Press Championship event, Shema dove back into preparation and training over the next 5 months for yet another elite event, demonstrating exceptional discipline, hard work, and commitment to perform and thrive at the highest level.
Competitive powerlifting is a famously intense and technically demanding sport that requires different muscle groups to work in unison, often pushing the body to its absolute limits. This requires significant mental fortitude and a rigorous training regimen in order to maximize strength, and training over multiple times for weeks and months, while following meticulous programs that require mobility work, conditioning and proper recovery protocols in order to adequately prepare for the event.
Though coming up slightly short, he still achieved impressive powerlifting stats amidst the competition, racking up to combined total of 580 kgs in his bench, squat and deadlift, a testament to his training paying dividends with a flourish.
Congratulations to Shema for another outstanding achievement in the colours of MAHSA!
