The Beginning of a New Change

Before you begin to write down your new year’s resolutions, how many of the resolutions from the past year have you achieved thus far? A new year is all about reflecting on the past year to remember the triumphs, missteps or promises made and broken. Think about the times you opened yourself up to great adventures or hid away from people for fear of getting hurt. This year, make opportunities to do better,  and to love, forgive and accept yourself more. People are often eager and focused when coming up with their resolutions and goals. Then they gradually lose motivation or ignore them by February. Remember, resolutions do not have to be extravagant or in trend. Let's start simple and achieve more this year.

Here are six ideas for your 2022 New Year Resolutions. Make use of these ideas and remember to have fun along the way!

1. Work out to be healthy, not to feel skinny

Maybe it’s time for you to re-start this particular new year resolution that you have been putting off for years. Instead of obsessing over your body weight, start working out to be more active and healthy. Start going on daily walks or doing simple stretches. Stop looking on the weighing scale and focus on the fun and benefits this may provide.

2. Organise your day

If you’re often stressed out on the job or with your assignments or procrastinating to get things done, it is best to drop that habit and start organising your day the night before. Use a calendar to write down your deadlines, meetings or plans to avoid yourself from overworking or procrastinating. Organising your day keeps you productive and helps you get things done on time, giving you ample time to relax and unwind at the end of the day.

3. Practise kindness

Simple acts of kindness make a huge difference in our lives. There are thousands of moments in a day for you to practise kindness. Being kind to someone boosts your mood and makes your day better. A simple thank you or leaving compliments makes anyone’s day and instantly puts a smile on his/her faces. However, while being kind to others , do not forget to be kind to yourself too. Banish that negative self-talk and focus on the positive parts of yourself.

4. Write down what you're grateful for

There are gratitude journals or online apps that help you write down your blessings. It does not matter how extravagant or simple it is, such as writing down how grateful you are for being able to wash your hair today! Gratitude is a way of counting your blessings and being thankful for you and your surroundings. It helps to keep your mind on the positivity field and makes you feel powerful. Even writing a few lines helps with the way you view the world. It instantly lifts your mood and makes you feel better after a stressful day. Try this and see how it changes your day.

5. Drink more water

Water could be a boring beverage compared to that fourth cup of coffee you’re chugging down. Drinking water is good for your health. It prevents dehydration or tiredness. Did you know that water hydrates your skin too? Now this is another way to keep your skin young and healthy. There are ways to keep track of your drinking habits through mobile apps that remind you to drink and record the amount of water you’ve been drinking a day.

6. Treat yourself better

The past two years have been rough and super tiring. We’ve been hustling through the pandemic, plastering our work and studies to barely have time to ourselves. You have probably achieved a lot and grown in the past year, but how many times have you stopped to acknowledge and celebrate your victories? Always care about your mental well-being. Do not forget to pause when you get tired or say no when you really can’t. Create simple habits and routines to pamper yourself, to relax, and to appreciate your busy week. By all means, avoid working on the weekdays and spend time with your family, friends or just be alone. Remember, it is okay to make mistakes! Be kind to yourself and go easy.
