Internet of Behaviour (IoB): Internet of Things (IoT) Redefined

Internet of things (IoT) is an emerging technology of this decade, constantly expanding the day-to-day lives of all.  Internet of Behaviour (IoB) is an extension of IoT which uses the data collected through smart devices to analyse human psychology. It combines technology, data analysis, and human behaviour, which is required for any modern-day business, from marketing to sales, manufacturing and e-commerce. This article summarises the concepts, examples and job opportunities for IoT and IoB.

Internet of Things (IoT) & Its Applications

IoT is the network of physical things embedded with sensors and software to connect and communicate data with devices and systems over the internet. These devices range from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools. IoT will be the most essential technology of the future, right from household appliances, electronic gadgets to modern industries.

Smart City: IoT provides digital connectivity to ensure a sustainable environment, energy management, water management, E-Governance and citizen services.

Health Care: IoT technology is used in real-time health monitoring of patients during any critical conditions. With the use of wearable sensors, the vital parameters of patients can be recorded and sent directly to the doctors.

Agriculture: In recent times, smart farming has become popular with IoT technology to monitor irrigation, soil conditions, growth of crops. The data collected from sensors can be used to make faster and accurate decisions in agriculture.

Internet of Behaviour (IoB)

Internet of Behaviour (IoB) is the combination of technology, data analysis and human behaviour. Internet of Behaviour (IoB) analyses the behavioural data gathered from the IoT devices such as wearable technologies, individual online activities, and smart household electrical devices. It provides valuable information about the behaviour and interest. It is estimated that 40% of the world population's activities will be tracked to influence their behaviour. Internet of behaviour tries to understand the collected data and give suggestions based on human psychology.

Knowledge Management – Turning Data into Wisdom: The more data is created, the better understanding and wisdom people can obtain.

In the future, the Internet of Behaviour will be an excellent tool for marketing and sales for understanding human psychology. With the massive data collected from people's buying behaviour, companies can get good insights for marketing and sales through the internet of behaviour analysis. The insights can help companies develop their marketing strategies effectively instead of doing everything in a trial and error method. Also, they can influence customers to buy products based on their past purchases.

Some Suggestive IoB Applications

E-Commerce Shopping Sites: With the insight from a particular customer’s behaviour, the shopping sites can predict the product they need and suggest additional products brought together by a similar buyer.  Thus, IoB will be a big boost for the shopping sites to enhance their sales.

Employee Behaviour: In the future, employees will be tracked to assess their performances. In this regard, IoB is going to play a significant role in improving the productivity of the industries.

Digital Marketing: Internet of Behaviour will be an essential tool for digital marketing. Based on the data from social media, companies can carry out digital marketing campaigns effectively.

Final Thoughts

The growth of IoT has created a lot of job opportunities in all fields. Hence, it is very important to upgrade the knowledge of IoT related technologies such as Embedded Systems, Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Programming, Networking, Security, Communication Protocols and UI/UX Design. Finally, IoT and IoB will rule the business and industrial sectors in the future.
