Ramp Up Your Resilience: A Virtual Run by Faculty of Health Sciences

Words by:
Ms. Nur Faiza binti Abdul Razak
(Lecturer, Department of Environmental Health and Safety, Faculty of Health Sciences)

As part of MAHSA University’s May 2021 thematic month activities, the Faculty of Health Sciences organised a virtual run event named “Ramp Up Your Resilience!”. Runners from various faculties and departments joined the virtual race of 3km. The participants measured their activity while running on a treadmill using devices such as GPS watch and smartphone and then submitted their results to the organising committee.

This virtual run was modelled after traditional running events except that participants completed the run entirely on their own. There was no pre-determined location nor fixed date/time. There was also no time limit set for the activity to be completed. Participants were free to do the run wherever they were and whenever it was convenient for them to make this event possible under the restrictions of the movement control order (MCO). This event’s objective was to motivate everyone to stay active and learn to exercise wherever they may be to stay healthy during this difficult COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme of the month’s activities was Resilience, which relates to the ability, when faced with challenges and obstacles, to move forward and face the challenges head-on and to overcome them. This Virtual Run was meant to highlight our resilience in the face of this pandemic and movement restrictions by encouraging exercise and fitness. Exercise is essential in keeping us emotionally stable,  to blow-off steam and also our physical well-being. Whatever happens in our day, we should make time for some exercise daily either by walking, jogging, or running, just exercise at your own pace and your own preferred way.

Big round of applause to all the finishers who successfully completed the run and submitted their  results before the cut-off date.

A Lucky Draw was held to culminate the event.

There were 3 lucky draw winners as follows:

1.     Nicholas Gabriel Reddiar- Faculty of Dentistry  (student category)

2.     Tan Qi Chau - Faculty of Health Sciences (student category)

3.     Dr. Noor Haziqah Bte Kamaludin - Faculty of Health Sciences (staff category)

Congratulations to our winners! Thank you to everyone who for participated in this “Ramp Up Your Resilience!” virtual run event.  Hope you build on you resilience and exercise daily to stay healthy !
