33rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE)

The 33rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) was held at Sokhalay Angkor Villa Resort, Siem Reap, Cambodia between 24th to 26th November 2022. The dental committee from the University of Puthisastra had worked enthusiastically on this anticipated program with the theme “Getting Dental Education Back on Track”.

The conference offered a broad scientific program with excellent keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations from various dental disciplines, workshops and various scientific competitions. One that particularly caught my eye was the ‘Student Community Engagement Competition’ that allowed students to showcase an exhibit or demonstration of a prevention or public health project carried out in a community by a group of undergraduate students. With this, I seized the golden opportunity to proudly showcase the on-going, university social responsibility (USR) project organised by the Department of Dental Public Health, together with the 5th year dental undergraduates and postgraduates of Master of Orofacial Science, led by Dr. Anna Rani Kanagarajah. Under the guidance of Professor Dr. Rashidah Esa, we eagerly joined the competition and worked diligently to showcase our project titled, “‘Smart Partnership for Oral Health’ An Oral Health Promotion Project at Workplaces in Selangor”.

After passing the preliminary phase evaluation, our team were happily notified for the final round judgment in Siem Reap, Cambodia through a table clinic display. Juggling through the final year professional examination with preparation a little under a month, the journey was sure to be challenging, but remarkably memorable. However, with great teamwork, our team had finally managed to put together a well-arranged table display of our project. Despite not ranking in the final 3, reaching the top 10 finalist was undeniably a great accomplishment and nevertheless, the conference had been a wonderful experience through my eyes. Definitely one not-to-forget!
