Urban Vision @ HBS Series starts with: Healthcare for Today and Tomorrow

On January 9th, 2025, MAHSA University hosted the first of a new industry networking seminar series, “Urban Vision @ HBS," whose aim is to bring together industry experts, policymakers, and leaders to share their invaluable experience and insights with members of academia. This series is moderated by the Academic Affairs Committee of MAHSA University.

The theme for this session was "Healthcare Today and Tomorrow," featuring three distinguished speakers: Dr. Nurashikin Ibrahim, Director of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health (NCEMH) under the Ministry of Health Malaysia; Prof. IR Dr. Yus Aniza Yusof, Professor of Food Material Engineering/Deputy Director, Halal Products Research Institute, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); and highly respected Dentist and entrepreneur, Dr. Allan Teh.

Event Highlights


Dr. Nurashikin Ibrahim, Director of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health (NCEMH) under the Ministry of Health Malaysia, captivated the audience with her passionate views on mental health. She emphasised the critical importance of early intervention and preventive measures in mental health care. Dr. Nurashikin advocated for a holistic approach, integrating mental health services into primary care and community settings. Her call to action to reduce stigma and increase public awareness about mental health issues resonated deeply with attendees


Prof. IR Dr. Yus Aniza Yusof from University Putra Malaysia delivered an enlightening talk on the current state and future of Halal healthcare. She demystified the regulations and standards governing Halal healthcare products and services, highlighting the surging demand for Halal-certified healthcare and the necessity for continuous innovation to meet this demand. Her emphasis on collaboration between regulatory bodies, healthcare providers, and researchers to ensure the integrity and quality of Halal healthcare was particularly thought-provoking.

Dr. Allan Teh from Sepa Dental addressed the economic challenges in the healthcare sector with his engaging talk on "The Business of Care: Adapting to Economic Challenges in Healthcare." Dr. Teh discussed the financial pressures faced by healthcare providers and the innovative strategies to overcome them. He underscored the need for branding and awareness in the business of dental care and the adoption of technology to enhance healthcare delivery. Dr. Teh's insights into patient-centred care and the role of healthcare leaders in navigating economic challenges were both practical and inspiring.


The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Emeritus Dr. Rosnah binti Mohd Zain, Deputy Vice Chancellor of MAHSA University, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abu Hassan, FASc, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at MAHSA University, as well as Dato' Haji Abdul Rani bin Hj. Osman, Director of Partnership at MAHSA University. All representatives expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the speakers and attendees, emphasising the importance of such events in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Overall, the event was well received, offering attendees invaluable insights into the future of healthcare. The dynamic discussions on mental health, Halal healthcare, and economic challenges were both enlightening and inspiring.

Shattering Stereotypes: First Malaysian Indigenous Dentist

The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) recently extended their congratulations to Dr Tan Bee Hui, who became the first indigenous person to earn the title of Dentist. JAKOA's message was shared on their TikTok page (@jakoamalaysia) based on a post made by the Malaysia Orang Asli Students' Association (PMOA) on their Facebook page.
