On 26th September 2024, the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing and Education in collaboration with Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) organized a seminar on Glove Awareness for MAHSA University nursing students.

141 students attended this half-day seminar which aimed to educate and raise awareness among the healthcare students on the importance of proper selection and usage of gloves for infection control in various healthcare settings.

The seminar began with an insightful presentation by glove expert Dr. Eng Aik Hwee, who discussed on “Selecting the Right Gloves”. This was followed by a demonstration on the correct way of donning and doffing gloves, 10 volunteers from the audience were invited to the stage to participate in the demonstration with Dr Eng. A small gift was given to each participant as a token of appreciation.

At the end of this session, a pop quiz of 15 questions was prepared for all the participants to join and answer as each question was flashed on the screen. The top 5 scorers received prizes prepared by MRC.

After a break, the seminar continued with a presentation by Ms. Anny Mary, former Deputy Director of the Nursing Division at the Ministry of Health Malaysia, on “Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Facilities”. Participants engaged in an interactive demonstration of proper technique of hand washing with Ms. Anny Mary.

This Glove Awareness Programme held for our nursing students was a significant success in fulfilling its primary objectives of educating future healthcare professionals on the proper selection and usage of medical gloves to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
